Intro, please: (Introduction)
My name is Cierra Ferguson & I am 21 years old as of today, August 25! Why am I doing school work on my birthday? Well this is as good an introduction into my life as any…

I’ve wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. A long time ago I figured that if I had to do anything for the rest of my life, I should enjoy it and school was something that I always took pleasure in. I believe the drive and dedication that I put into my school work has helped me to be at the place I am right now in life and I want to help children experience those same feelings of success.

A big part of my life is where I’m from and the people that live there. I am from Taylorsville, NC in Alexander County but I live in Wilkesboro, NC in Wilkes County. I am a “small town person”, meaning that big cities are not meant for me to live in! Coming out of such small towns, I am very close with my family. My mom has 8 brothers and sisters and my grandma has 10 brothers and sisters! Now that’s a lot of family to love! Speaking of things I love…

What do I love??? (What I like)
Well I already mentioned my family but the two who are responsible for me are very important. I have no clue where I would be without both my mama and daddy! I am an only child, and some would say that I take advantage of this fact… I think they use the word “spoiled”.
Another love: SHOPPING! I am a bargain shopper and mighty proud of it! Clothes, Shoes, Purses, Jewelry… A girl can never have enough!

I LOVE my friends! While I have kept in contact with friends from high school, the friends that I have made in college are amazing! I am so thankful that I fell in with the crowd I have because without them, I would be lost!
Another big thing in my life is church. It’s a place where I feel comfortable and secure and that’s very important to me because there aren’t too many places like that left in the world. My dad is a pastor so of course I spend a lot of time there, only instead of an obligation it’s something that I enjoy.

Here are just a random few of other things I love:
Animal: Giraffe
Ice Cream: Rainbow Cream
Color: Yellow
Flower: Sunflower
Time of Year: Spring
What am I not in love with??? (What I dislike)
For me, it is much harder to describe what I do not like than to describe what I do like. Let’s see….
Well I do not like Scary/Horror movies. Although not really a scary movie, I had nightmares about Planet of the Apes when I was in the 3rd Grade and ever since then, I’ve learned that anything that can keep me up at night is NOT for me!
I don’t like most animals. Although this sounds horrible, I don’t have a desire to own any animal. They are cute from afar but alas, not for me.
I try really hard to be considerate and courteous to everyone I meet. So it bothers me when I see people who do not offer those same character traits towards others. It particularly annoys me when it concerns elderly people. I once heard the following quote from George Washington Carver: “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.” I whole heartedly agree with this statement and try my best to live it!
Who IS that??? (What I look like)
Hmmm…. What DO I look like? Well as I run back and forth between the mirror and the computer, I notice a few things. One is that I have mahogany eyes, hair like ebony, and freckles on my tongue
. Another is that I have a lot of moles. I have about 4 on my face, a big one on my neck, and one on my pinky. Guess it’s kinda hereditary because my dad and grandma both have them too, only in different areas of course!
Speaking of genetics, EVERYONE used to say that I looked just like my 2 aunts, my dad’s sisters and that my cousin looked just like my dad. They still joke that I belong to my Aunt Dana and my cousin belongs to my dad! Personally, I don’t see it…
I’m just doing me!!! (How I act)
It is also hard for me to describe how I act. This would be an easy feat for those close to me, but oddly enough, not so easy for me!
Two words that are contradictory but that I believe truly describe me are CALM and STUBBORN. Interesting, right?
I chose the word calm because for the most part, I am a really relaxed, chill person. I don’t like confrontation and I try to avoid it as much as possible. However, I will be the first to say that when I get riled up or when I am passionate about something, the aggressive side of me does come out.
I say stubborn because I can be very set in my ways. My dad always says that I don’t listen to other people’s advice and I have to prove if something is wrong or right for myself. One line that resonates with me on this subject is from the rapper Drake which states “….just tell em you appreciate the help, but you just got to know for yourself”.
I also like to consider myself as friendly. I used to get so mad when I would go out with my parents and they would ALWAYS find someone they knew to talk to. The phrase “Never met a stranger” is one that my parents live by! As I grow older, now I find myself doing the exact same thing, which I hope speaks to the fact that I am friendly and open to meeting new people.
Another contradiction is that I can be extremely shy. When I first meet someone or am put into a new situation where I don’t know anyone, I am super quiet and withdrawn. Eventually, I warm up to the situation and to new people, but not without hesitation at first!
For future reference…. (What you should know about me)
Hmmmm…. What should you know about me???
I am a hard worker and if I want something, I will try my best to attain it, whether it be a goal or a material object. I have always felt that even if you don’t always have the correct answer, as long as you try, you will succeed, whether it be in academics or in life.
I don’t appreciate drama or trouble makers. If your sole mission in life is to create problems for others, then you probably have a major problem yourself. I try not to associate myself with these groups of people, although they are often present.
Last but not least, I want to be a person that I, as well as others can be proud of. My favorite quote (not another one!) is “When you were born, people were around you crying and you were smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you’re the one smiling and people are around you crying”. I hope that each and every day I’m getting closer to fulfilling this quote!
